Okay folks, here's one last item that I'm going to introduce. For those of you that know me and have been to any of our sites you know that I have NEVER in my time recommended a food product other than that of one freeze dried product. Hold onto your seats and mark this date as one of history for I will now tell you about the absolute BEST damn summer sausage I have ever had the pleasure of sinking my choppers into.

I've been searching far and wide for a knife sharpener that not only works great but one that works easily, quickly and in the field. Now don't get me wrong, there are alot of sharpeners out there that do work great, there is also alot of garbage out there that wouldn't be fit even as a simple paper weight. I just haven't found the sharpener that would suit my all around purpose for home and field that would make me happy, yes, I'm pretty damn picky. Although I am not going to commit to my words just yet I will say that maybe, just maybe my search has come to an end. Guys believe me when I tell you that over the years I have checked out literally dozens of sharpeners from numerous companies. When I saw the booth with the Edgemaker I sighed and thought what the hell, I'll at least stop and talk to the people. True to the form of the typical pitchman the guy behind the counter started demonstrating the knife, his wife stayed a safe distance away as I soon found out why. While talking this guy had a habit of waving around a very sharp fillet knife without watching or paying attention. As I prepared my phone to dial 911 I silently wished that I hadn't worn one of my good shirts as surely I'd be covered in blood. Much to my relief, okay a little disappointment too, he didn't cut himself. What he did do however was show me that this was a very awesome sharpening system. Guys, and ladies, he took that fillet knife and literally shaved a sheet of magazine print. When I say shaved I mean he took that blade and brought it across the sheet of paper and shaved the text and image right off without cutting through the sheet itself; kind of like in the commercials where they peel the skin off of a tomato. I was impressed. Now I knew that the blade had been sharpened a few hundred times before and during the show so the next step was to find out what it would do with a dull blade. I didn't have my knife available so I told them I'd be back the following day. The following day I took Scott with me to see the sharpening system. This time there was a new gentleman there demonstrating the sharpener and much to me delight, okay disappointment too, he wasn't waving the knife around; he was older and therefore likely much wiser. Scott was impressed as well but since I forgot to bring a knife we didn't have anything with us to really give it a good test. I told them I'd be back the next morning. That evening I found the perfect knife and packed it into my bag so I would not forget it again. I'm sure you already know where this is going. The next day I headed to the booth and presented the knife. My favorite demonstrator was there, yep, the waver, so I figured I had one more shot at seeing blood. I presented him the knife and watched as he studied the blade closely. The knife I brought is a double edge dagger that I had gotten at least 20 years ago, brand new and never used. It's more of a display knife than a tool and although the edges were fine and clean they were indeed very dull. Cutting through a steak with this knife would have been a chore. Well he waved the knife around a few times, probably just to amuse me now and began the job of honing that blade. He started with the first sharpener step to put a nice edge on then handed it to me. That alone was very sharp and in my mind was more than enough to do the job. Then he took it back, waved it some more as he described the next process and began the second step, fine tuning the blade. When he finished that he got out the magazine and yes folks, he started shaving that paper as if it were his very own chin. I was dumbfounded to say the least. Now the blade on this dagger is thick, it's not thin and fine like a fillet knife but it did in fact shave the magazine paper. He wasn't done though, he went through the routine of waving and talking and I knew this time I'd surely see blood, I didn't though. He ran that blade through one final step to put on a barber shop strap edge on it and believe me when I say that I was afraid to run my fingers across it to test the edge. Now then like I said before, there are alot of sharpeners out there that would do the exact same thing. What impressed me was the fact that the entire process took less then three or four minutes of actual sharpening time and was all done with just two sharpeners as shown in the pictures. Given the fact that these would also work great in the field was the added bonus, the bonus that I've been looking for for a very long time. I placed an order, one for Scott and one for myself. As soon as Scott and I head out into the woods again for our next trip I'll watch him put an edge on his blade, I'll see blood yet. I'll let you know in the very near future exactly how well the product does perform and if it does meet my expectations. In the meantime you can check it out online at www.edgemaker.com. If you do get one let me know what you think as well.

Since we know you're wondering which gun we've chosen we'll start there. After much deliberation we've chosen the Browning Silver Lightning 12 gauge semi auto shotgun. For starters Browning makes a very nice gun; they always have and chances are they always will. The Silver Lightning is light weight at just under eight pounds and it's well balanced. We can sit here and talk about this fine shotgun all day long but we would just as soon leave that to the folks at Browning. The MSRP is listed on their site at $1279. If you're looking for a nice 12gauge this is one gun that is definitely worth considering. Check out the Browning site at www.browning.com then head to your local dealer and ask to see the Silver Lightning.

Just because our sites are temporarily down doesn't mean that we can't toss in a few good selections for you here on the front page of Pappy's World. For all of our friends in the hunting world we're especially pleased to bring you some of the news and a special product review from the SHOT SHOW 2010 that was held right here in Las Vegas at the Sands Expo. The Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show and Conference (SHOT Show) is the largest and most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with the shooting sports and hunting industries. It is the world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, archery, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, camping and related products and services. The SHOT Show attracts buyers from all 50 states and more than 75 countries. The SHOT Show is owned and sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and is produced and managed by Reed Exhibitions. There were thousands of products at the show, some very well known and some very new to the market, many of which were making their debut at the show. There were four of us from Pappy's World walking the floor all four days and we still weren't able to see everything. As always I (Ken) picked out a few items that I thought I'd share with you. Some of these items, such as the bullets from Barnes are all ready well known by many but deserve an introduction to those new in the sport of hunting. Other items such as the Big Game Drag Glove are new in the market place. There were of course more guns at the show than I could possibly count and as much as I would have liked to introduce all of them that simply wasn't going to happen. We discussed it and it was decided that we would pick out just one gun from the bunch to introduce to you. It was an extremely difficult choice and I almost scrapped the idea all together. Now please don't get us wrong, there were literally hundreds of fine rifles, shotguns and pistols, as well as tactical firearms at the show that I would love to personally own. There were many things that we were looking for in choosing the gun that we would introduce to you, foremost it had to be something that the general hunting population would actually use and enjoy. It had to be well built, dependable, relatively new to the market and also affordable to the typical hunter. As with our gun selection the products that I have chosen are all products that I feel the typical hunter would utilize. Some of these products would make the work easier for use after the kill and some would simply increase the chance of success. All of the products are very affordable and in my opinion they are items that nearly all hunters would likely use. We've listed these in no particular order. For more information on the SHOT Show simply visit www.shotshow.org |

It was on the second day of the show that I spoke with Ben. I asked the typical questions as he walked me through the video. It didn't take long to realise that this was going to cut down the skinning time by a great deal. The following day Scott was at the show with me so I took him to see the skinner as well. We decided that not only would it work great for deer but it would also work great for pig; Ben confirmed this but there is a small change in the steps you take due to the thicker skins of hogs. He'll be happy to explain that step to anybody that buys the product. It'll be a couple of months before we can actually try it ourselves when we go pig hunting, if we don't get a pig we'll just have to wait until next deer season. I have absolutely no doubts that it will work great, as soon as we confirm it we'll let you know. In the meantime we suggest you go check out Bens site at www.tenminutedeerskinner.com. He's got that video clip on his site so be sure to watch it.
Absolutely the fastest and easiest way to skin a deer Keeps meat clean from hair and other contaminants Professional method of skinning, minimal cutting and reduces nicks in hide Uses the power of your vehicle to quickly and efficiently remove deer skin

Now you know that yes, we do enjoy hunting wild hogs. Out here in Nevada we are allowed to hunt them at night, of course local ordinances do apply so before anybody heads out with a rifle to shoot a pig at night make sure you look up the laws. So, that being said when I saw the Laser Designators from Laser Genetics I knew I had to really take a good look. In my opinion it's an awesome device and I do plan to purchase my own very soon. Once I use it and determine (if) it's a worthy product I'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime check out the website at www.lasergenetics.com
The ND3 Laser Designator uses patented technology to create true night vision and turns your scoped rifle into a night hunter. Combining a powerful, eye safe green laser diode and a precision optical collimator, the ND3 pairs with your scope and allows you to cast a bright beam of green laser light to fully illuminate targets up to 250 yards. The patented optical collimator allows for quick, one handed, full range adjustment of beam diameter and light strength, with just 100 degrees of rotation. You never have to take your eyes off the target or your hand off the trigger. High power green laser light reflects intensely off the eyes of animals allowing quick locating from over 300 yards. The ND3 works well for both night hunting and game spotting. The ND3 Laser Designator, with a system of 9 fully multi-coated lenses, is a precision optical lighting instrument using advanced green laser technology. The patented Rotary Optical Collimator allows full adjustment and control of beam diameter and intensity to focus light where you need it most. Rotating the collimator ring to minimum creates a bright micro beam of green laser light visible up to 3 miles. Rotating the collimator to a more open setting provides plenty of illumination to light a trail at night or paint a target at 250 yards. Battery life allows you to handle a variety of emergencies with over 7 hours of available power. Green laser light is the most visible to the human eye and requires the least amount of eye adjustment at night. Animal eyes are intensely illuminated by green laser light and clearly visible at extended distances when viewed through optics. For optimum night vision for hunting, pair the ND3 with a high quality variable power scope having a 40mm or larger objective lens to provide maximum light transmission. The included ND3 mounting system for 1” scope tubes provides full adjustment for windage and elevation alignment. An additional mount for binocular and spotting scope is included.

| Fred Barnes started putting together Barnes bullets about the same time that God invented dirt, well since 1932 anyway. Some 35 years later Fred sold the company, the new owners changed the name of the company. Well in 1974 they decided to sell the company and a couple by the name Randy and Coni Brooks bought the company. Knowing a good thing they got in touch with Fred and he was happy to do some consulting work for them. They also changed the name of the company back to Barnes bullets and started on a path that would make Fred proud. Fred passed away at the age of 82 in 1990; I didn't know the man but I expect he's up there with God coming up with new ways to invent cleaner dirt. Rest in peace Fred. The bullet we want to introduce to you now is the new TSX lineup. I'm not sure I can do this bullet the justice it deserves in describing it so in rare form I'm going to rely on the press release from Barnes. See more at www.barnesbullets.com Barnes Adds to TSX™ and Tipped TSX™ Lineup Barnes is adding seven new Tipped TSX (TTSX) bullets and five new TSX bullets to its 2010 hunting bullet lineup. The TTSX features Barnes’ best-selling Triple-Shock X Bullet® design, with the addition of a streamlined polymer tip that boosts BC for improved long-range ballistics. TSX and Tipped TSX bullets feature 100-percent copper, lead-free bodies. Multiple rings cut into the shank relieve pressures and virtually eliminate copper fouling, while contributing to the bullet’s outstanding accuracy. On impact, hydraulic pressure forces the nose cavity open, doubling the bullet’s original diameter and creating four cutting petals that wreak extensive internal damage. Retains virtually 100 percent of its original weight and produces pass-through penetration. The TTSX bullet’s polymer tip initiates expansion, causing the nose cavity to open instantly on contact. Hydraulic pressure ensures reliable expansion on pronghorn, whitetail deer and other thin-skinned game. Count on this bullet to exit the far side of deer or elk, even when heavy bones are struck. Exceptional performance means clean, quick kills. New TTSX additions include: 100-grain .264” BT (6.5mm) 110-grain .284” FB (7mm) 160-grain .323” BT (8mm) 110-grain .308” FB 200-grain .308” BT 185-grain .338” BT 300-grain .458” BT (SOCOM) Tipped TSX Bullets are also available in .243, .257, 6.5, .270, 7mm, .30 and .338 calibers. New TSX additions include: 50-grain .224” FB 285-grain .338” (Lapua) BT 350-grain .375” FB Some “Johnny-come-lately” manufacturers are attempting to copy Barnes’ success. Accept no imitations. | Every once in awhile that product comes along that makes you say "why didn't I think of that?" I knew the concept of the Drag Glove from the moment I saw it, now I had to try it on just for kicks. The product is so simplistic in design and function as well as intent that there really isn't any reason why it won't work great. If you've ever hunted big game then you know that whether your dragging the animal or simply loading it into your truck it can be a task, the bigger the game the bigger the task. Now I'm sure that most of us have thought of and perhaps used the same technique many times, that being the use of straps. The man that came up with this product simply said to himself, "Self, gloves are a must have when dragging or loading big game. Straps make the job easier but theres gotta be a better way. I know, I'll combine the two!" Okay so I'm not sure if thats what he said to himself but he did it and he came up with a winner! As with most of the products that intrigue me I just kind of sat back near his booth and watched the people that took a look at the glove. I listened to what they had to say and the consensus was as expected, they love the glove. Now then, I bought a set of the gloves and I'm itching to try them out. I took them home and frustrated myself knowing that the next pig hunt was a couple of months out. I tried to convince my wife to come out into the backyard and play caveman, thus allowing me to drag her around a bit, she wasn't having anything to do with that. About the time I looked over at my daughters they all ran for the hills. Anyway folks, this is definitely a product any big game hunter will be glad to have. I did ask him what would happen if any of the stitching came loose and he assured me that as long as your using the glove for the purpose intended, no hoisting engine blocks and such, then he'll gladly replace them. The guy that came up with it is a man just like you and I, not some big corporation so he is going through the process of establishing the warranties and paperwork. He'll get it done quicker than you can wear these things out. In the meantime check out his site at www.biggamedragglove.com. From what I saw at the show this product will be on retailers shelves very soon, until then you can order direct from his site. |

When I first saw this next product I was a bit skeptical and the first thing that came to mind was gimmick. They were displaying bore cleaning patches. Now these patches weren't the typical square patches, these were cut in a funny triangular shape. They had a cleaning table set up so I asked for a demonstration. The gentleman was happy to demonstrate the product so he grabbed a rod and a patch and rammed it through the barrel, it of course came out dirty on the other end. Now any patch will come out dirty but that wasn't what he was showing me. He went on to describe that a square patch when put on the end of the ramming tool and pushed through a bore will create folds within the patch, often seven or more folds depending on the size. If you think about it as I then did, he is exactly right. Each of these folds will take away from the actual surface contact that the patch makes with the bore, again, absolutely correct. He went on to describe that this new design decreases the amount of folds on the patch and therefore much more surface contact is made between the patch and bore, again when I thought about it he's absolutely right. Now then, in my mind this patch won't clean a gun "better" than an ordinary patch, the guns only going to come as clean as the person doing the job will allow. HOWEVER, what this patch will do is make the job easier, quicker and more economical than the typical square patch. Go ahead, you can ask me how, hopefully I can answer it to where you can understand the concept. Since the triangular shape reduces the amount of folds it will slide through the bore much easier and with less bulk than a square patch. It's happened to all of us, we clean the guns and every now and then the patch will tend to get stuck inside the bore, thats because it got all bunched up. I'm glad your with me so far so lets go on; since the triangular patch will contact much more bore surface it will do the job while using less patches. Okay, it might only be two or three patches less but the job will be quicker and over time you will in fact save money. Who knows, maybe it might just do a better job after all, we'll let you know as soon as we use it ourselves. But wait, theres more. After they told me about the patches I asked about the rest of the product line. They have also designed a jag brush unlike what I've seen before. The brush is tapered at the end which will allow you to put a patch on while your brushing, guess you can say you'll brush and wipe at the same time. I know we've all tried this with the typical brush and patch and it just doesn't work as well as we'd like, well with this system it does. As much as I'd love to talk about the product all day it comes down to this; this guy has gun cleaning patches and brushes. If you own a gun you (hopefully) clean it on a regular basis therefore you know what a patch and brush is and how to use them. Will this thing make your breakfast in the morning and call you honey, no; will it do the job well and cut your cleaning time and save you money, yes. Guys about all I can say is that you owe it to yourselves to check out this product line and try it for yourselves. Scott and I plan to use it so we'll keep you up to date; if we love it we'll let you know and if we run into problems, which I just don't see happening, we'll let you know. Their website is at www.rigelproducts.com

Whether you hunt, fish, go boating or simply do needlepoint this next product is one that everyone can use. (Needlepoint?) Now then, I'm just going to focus on the manly stuff right now like hunting and fishing (insert Tim Taylor grunt here). There are a bunch of ladies that hunt too so listen up gals. The Console vault is a definite, make that a capital DEFINITE must have if you travel and carry a handgun, or for that matter any other valuables! So you're asking, what is the console vault? This vault is specially designed and manufactured to fit within the vehicles console system. Now when I say specially designed I mean that it IS NOT one size fits all, each unit is built specifically for the vehicle for which it will be installed. If you have a 2004 F150 then the vault you get will be for that truck, if you have a 2003 F150 it's not going to fit. Some of the models come in a choice of combination lock or keyed lock. Some vaults such as for my wifes Sequia come only in a keyed lock (for right now anyway) do to the consoles lid design. I am happy to say however that I have offered a solution to that problem which is currently being reviewed by the manufacturer. As much as I'd love to have one of these in my wifes vehicle, since that's the one we use while on vacation, she won't stand for it simply because she would have to use the key each time she reached into the console for whatever it is she keeps in there. With the combination lock it can be left in an unlocked position and opened easily until you decide to engage the lock by rolling the numbers on the dial. Folks, this is great for protecting more than just your guns. When I take the wife and kids on vacation we love to go to the beach. With this I would be able to leave my wallet, watch and other valuables right there in the car without fear of getting stolen, unless the thief takes the whole damn car of course. When you go to the gym to work out you may not want to leave your wallet in the gym supplied lockers, I for one know they get broken into all the time. Sometimes the thief will actually sit there and watch you change, if he sees you putting your dress pants into a locker then he knows that the chances are your wallet is in there too. You get the picture right? Now then, those of you that have been to the trade shows or have seen the advertisements know there are many other vault systems out there. Most of these are designed mainly for gun storage and most of them are removable, this meaning they can be taken out of a vehicle and into your home or motel room. Yes, "some" of these vaults are also made well and yes they do serve a purpose. At the same token some of these vaults are better used for nothing more than target practice. I'm sure the folks from the Console Vault are cringing over that last remark so let me make it perfectly clear that the views expressed here are simply MY opinions and do not reflect on the opinions of the manufacture. I just don't know what else I can tell you about this system folks other than BUY IT, install it, use it and keep your valuables safe! Think about it for a minute, if a thief breaks into your car he's going to rummage through it very fast, he is NOT going to take the time to try to bust open a vault system, especially a system built as tough as this one. He'll grab what he can and run, unless of course he's completely brain dead and decides to stick around and wait for the police or worse for you to come out of the gym all pumped up with male testosterone flowing wildly at which time you can pummel him at will before calling the police. Ah, theres another one of those remarks, please refer to sentence above, these are MY opinions. Check out their website at www.consolevault.com. If you do buy one then definitely let me know what you think of the product. Ah yes, they do have one other product out there that is absolutely fantastic as well and yes, I will be buying one for myself. It's brand new on the market but they haven't quite figured out how to promote it yet without giving away the secret to the crooks out there. As soon as they do they will let me know and then I in turn will pass on the information to you. Sorry guys, I promised I wouldn't let the cat outta' the bag.

WHITE MOUNTAIN BUFFALO
There are very few men or women that don't love animals, after all, they taste delicious right. Well, I love to eat beef, better yet, I love to eat buffalo. Those of you that have eaten buffalo know for certain that there is absolutely no comparing the two critters, buffalo meat wins by far. The minute I walked near this booth I could smell the meat. Randy, the owner of White Mountain Buffalo asked if I would care to try a sample, who was I to insult the man by saying no. He gave me a hunk of the plain summer sausage and I slowly chewed it, savoring the flavor. Guys believe me when I tell you that this stuff was incredible. Well, as I swallowed that piece he handed me another, this time jalapeno and cheese flavored. I expected a pretty good bite to it but the pepper in no way took away from the buffalo meat, it simply added to it. About three or four pieces later I had worked up to the habanero flavor sausage. Again, I expected a really big kick but it didn't take away from the meat. Now I'm sure if I ate the entire sausage I'd definitely know it was in there. He wasn't allowed to sell any of the product until the very last day of the show so at 8:30 sharp I made sure I was there since supplies were limited. I purchased two 14 ounce sticks of the jalapeno and cheese, one for myself and one for Scott who couldn't be there that day. My wife and kids are crazy about it and I had to set up a no touch zone so to speak just to make sure there was some left for me. Scott's is still in the refrigerator and if he doesn't get over here soon then I'm not responsible if it disappears as well. Check out the site and order yours. They have Jerky as well, I didn't try that but you can bet I will. www.whitemountainbuffalo.com
